Ireland Ambassador Visits Evergreen Cemetery, Leadville Irish Miners’ Memorial Site
Hello, Irish and Irish-American Friends, and Friends of Ireland!
Plans continue to move forward on the Evergreen Cemetery project in Leadville. We are working with architects on the design as well as a website designer to create a virtual component to the memorial which will allow for educational opportunities and for greater access to the memorial for people from all over the US, Ireland and the rest of the world.
On May 13th, INCO co-hosted the Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, H.E. Daniel Mulhall for a day in Leadville. Partnering with the Irish Consulate in Austin and our Leadville Ambassadors, Kathleen Fitzsimmons and Luke Finken, INCO Board members took Ambassador Mulhall to tour the Evergreen Cemetery and the site of our memorial project.
The Ambassador started his day with a meeting with Leadville Mayor, Greg Labbe. From there the Ambassador toured the Tabor Opera House and then he addressed the student body of Lake County High School. His Leadville visit ended with lunch at the Silver Dollar Saloon.
On Monday evening, The Ambassador attended a reception at the Molly Brown House. In his comments to the guests he spoke about his reactions to the Leadville miners’ story, the strong Irish economy, relations between the US and Ireland, and Brexit.
